OLSON, Charles, Letter for Melville 1951

Published by Black Mountain College, Black Mountain NC, 1951

2 sheets (277x434mm) folded and affixed within pale green wraps, as issued

Olson's diatribe against the literary professors, polemically subtitled: "written to be read AWAY FROM the Melville Society's 'One Hundredth Birthday Party' for MOBY-DICK at Williams College, Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 2-4, 1951".

This copy inscribed to Jean and Krishna Ribaud, who visited Olson at Black Mountain College in 1942 (Olson's prose poem 'The Resistance' is dedicated to Jean Ribaud).

Printed under the direction of Larry Hatt, understood to be in an edition of only 50 copies.

A very good copy: oversized wraps chipped as usual and somewhat faded, but in excellent condition internally. Housed in a custom-made folder with marbled paper-covered boards. Very scarce: no auction records located; no copies located in institutions outside North America.
